LISBON - As cities battle with the dual challenge of maintaining resident populations amidst rising real estate interests and overtourism, the team investigated if there are any evidence-based ways to stop or slow gentrification and other issues through public, cooperative and social housing.

The team would cover evidence-based responses to European cities’ challenges regarding affordability, sustainability and housing availability. It’s a series on how governments and communities tackle problems in different areas, namely over-tourism and its relation with the housing crisis.

They would also examine the allocation and impact of public and European funds, policies, and solutions for state housing and urban renewal in these areas, to see if they are effective or with unintended consequences. Is finding a sustainable balance between overtourism and city living a challenge?
